4 DIY Gift Baskets

Looking for an original gift basket idea? You can save a lot of money by doing up these gift baskets yourself and add that personal touch. Here are a few tips when compiling your basket:

  1. Think about the recipient of the basket:
    • What do they like to do in their free time?
    • Do they actually like spending time in the kitchen?
    • How do they entertain?
    • How often do they entertain?
    • Are they health conscious and do they have any allergies?
    • What is their style? Traditional, romantic, modern?
  2. Decide on a theme:
  3. Tie a small kitchen utensil to the basket with ribbon
    • By colour
    • Season
    • Occasion
  4. Add a personal touch
    • Include a handwritten note with a quote, or write down your own saying
    • When tying up the basket, add a small item to the ribbon that goes with the basket style, either by contrast or complementing the contents
  5. Be original
    • In stead of placing the basket in a cellophane wrap, use a gift bag or a reusable, new grocery bag
    • Use a string of beads to tie the bag in stead of ribbon
    • I've also used an empty cereal box with small breakfast items as a house-warming present. It received great attention!
Gift Basket for the Baker

Item list:

1 Bag of Sugar
Artificial Flowers
Tea Towel

Place the bag of sugar in the mixing bowl. Use the tea towel in the bottom of the bowl as a "stand" for the smaller items. Arrange the flowers, cups, measuring spoons and measuring cups on top.

This is a great housewarming or bridal shower gift.

You can add a personal note:

Housewarming - WELCOME TO THE NEIGBOURHOOD, may your new house feel like home.

WELCOME! May your cupboards always be full of happiness and may you create lasting memories in your new home.

Wedding Shower - May your wedding day be as sweet as sugar, as colourful as spring and as everlasting as Tupperware!

A marriage is like a good recipe, with the right tools and ingredients, it will provide you with comfort and fulfil you. Sometimes the recipe will not go according to plan, but with practice and understanding, it will sustain you for the rest of your life.

The Breakfast Basket:

Maple Syrup
Small glass bottle of honey/jam/marmalade
Organic Oats
Cereal Bowls
Round Container
Designer Spoon
Breakfast Napkins

Arrange all the items in the round container. Tie a knot on the spoon and secure with a bow. Use the rest of the ribbon and tie it around the items. This presents very well when you colour coordinate the bow with the syrup and oats.
For a unique look, place the items on a breakfast tray in stead of wrapping it in cellophane or in a bag. If you're able to deliver the gift basket right away, add some fresh fruit or flowers to the basket.

The Ultimate Snack Gift Basket

Chip and Dip Set
Lemon & Lime Press
Seasoning Mix
Dry Seasoning Container
Crackers
Salsa

This is an excellent gift basket for the sports fanatic, the "Big Party" entertainer and the parents of teenagers. Arrange all the items in the bowl and wrap in cellophane. Tie a ribbon with tickets to a game or a gift card to the movies. It's sure to be a crowd pleaser. Chips stay crisp in this container when closed for up to two weeks!

For the Love of Pasta

Spaghetti Dispenser (filled with Spaghetti)
Small Modular Container (filled with Basil or Italian Seasoning)
Pasta Sauce
Pasta Plate
Pasta Spoon
Cloth Napkins
Small Garlic Keeper

Arrange all the items on the pasta plate. This works well for housewarming or welcome to the neigbourhood baskets. A note can include:

Welcome to the neighbourhood, have your first meal on us!
