Lemon & Lime
Your teenagers reheated their pizza, pasta and chili in the microwave without a lid; or they tested the "whole egg in the microwave" ... Teach them this easy cleaning technique!
Place a few slices of lemon in a Microwavable Bowl and add some water. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Carefully remove the bowl and wipe the microwave clean. Their future spouses/roommates will thank you too.
Other great uses:
Preservation
Some fruits and vegetables, like apples, potatoes, pears and avocados contains a specialized enzyme as well as iron phenols. When exposed to oxygen, these phenols react and causes them to brown (almost a kind of rust). To help prevent browning, squeeze some lemon or lime juice over the veggies or fruit.
Eliminate odours
Squeeze some onto a sponge or directly onto the surface and wipe away unwanted smells. Lemon juice also does the trick in freshening hands after preparing seafood or chopping garlic.
Stain removal for glass, fabric, stainless steel & hands
Squeeze lemon juice onto a cloth or mix with water in a spray bottle, apply to the glass and wipe away stubborn marks.
When fabrics are frequently exposed to harsh chemicals, they can deteriorate after time. Lemon juice, applied directly to the area will remove or lighten the stain. If the stain doesn't fully come out, apply a paste of table salt and water, leave it for 15 minutes and rinse.
Wipe the stainless steel with freshly squeezed lemon juice and polish with a cloth.
Rub some lemon juice onto your hands if stained with beetroot, carrots, spinach etc. Rinse with warm water.
Cleaning the Cheese Grater
Cut the lemon in half and grate the pulp to loosen sticky or greasy bits of food from the grater.
Medicinal properties
Lemon is rich in vitamin c and citrus flavonoids that have a powerful antioxidant function. It is also a natural disinfectant and great for strengthening your immune system and prevention infection and disease.
Mix a teaspoon with honey and a teaspoon of fresh lemon in Rooibos Tea to help with colds and sore throats.
Use one drop of Lemon Essential Oil on a toothbrush with a small amount of toothpaste to disinfect your teeth and mouth to help reduce the symptoms of gingivitis or mouth ulcers.
